How to Play Typing Race

  1. Choose Quick Match to find a random player, or choose Create Private Race for a friend.
  2. For a private race, share the six-character room code with your opponent.
  3. Both players click I'm Ready.
  4. When the countdown reaches GO!, type the passage.
  5. The first player to finish the passage wins immediately.

No TypingMeter account or database is required for the race. Private races use a browser-to-browser connection. Quick Match uses a small matchmaking service only to pair waiting players; race progress remains browser-to-browser.

How does Quick Match work?

Quick Match places you in a matchmaking queue and pairs you with another player who is looking for a race. After a match is found, the browsers connect directly for the race.

Can I race a friend?

Yes. Create a Private Race, copy the six-character room code, and send it to your friend. Both players then click I'm Ready.

Do both players type the same passage?

Yes. The host selects one passage and sends it to the opponent so both players race on identical text.

What happens if I make a mistake?

Your progress and WPM are frozen at the first wrong character until you correct the mistake. You must finish the entire passage exactly with 100% accuracy to win.

Is the Typing Race free?

Yes. The game is designed as a free browser-based typing race and does not require a TypingMeter account.
